Morton's History In Motion

Clark wanted me to pass this on to you:

Bring the whole family to Morton on the third weekend in June to experience the romance and history of America’s love affair with transportation, lumbering and pioneer life. This community event will feature an Antique Road Show appraiser George Higby, arts and crafts bazaar featuring local craftsmen, the large operating model railroad display of the Sound Cle Elum club as well model railroad items for sale and on display with music, information booths, an old fashioned bake sale and barbecue at the Morton Grade School. See Buster Keaton star in 1927 silent classic, The General, three matinee showings at the Roxy with 10 cent popcorn, and an evening of theatre play Regal City in the evening and more. See the authentic color scheme of the newly restored exterior of Morton’s 1910 Tacoma Eastern Railroad Depot, star of the History Channel’s Mega Movers show. The Cowlitz River Valley Historical Society is conducting a raffle to “Raise the Roof” funds for a new depot roof. The grand prize is a $500.00 Chevron gas card and other prizes include four Seattle Mariners Terrace Club tickets, gift baskets and more.

There will be chain saw art, miniature horses on display, Old Pioneer museum tours, vintage steam and diesel locomotives, as well as logging equipment, antique autos and trucks. Of special interest on Saturday from 10am-3pm only, Morton’s Hampton Mill will be offering tours of their lumber mill in action. See how those trees the Axmen log are processed! This family oriented event offers the opportunity to climb aboard a train powered by a vintage steam logging locomotive for a scenic trip back to the glory days of logging through mountains, trees and over tall timber trestles. Food, as well as water and fruit stations will be conveniently located. Morton also features a historic Main street with antique shops, restaurants, an old time display of vintage TVs and radios as well as other amenities. To purchase train tickets, raffles tickets, and for more information call 360-496-0070 or visit www.mortondepot.com. The Cowlitz River Valley Historical Society, non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation, sponsors this event.
